He looked at up in silence, openly staring with a curious half-glare.

"Why are you here?" His voice held no accusation; the cool blue eyes did all the telling. All those months she had neglected him, all those moments they spent apart when instead of the lotus and the fly, it should have been them.

His cradled wrist was pressed tightly against his chest. She found herself surprised at the changes in his face - it was so long ago, she thought, when I studied his lips, I've almost forgotten the curves along the road.

"Long before he and I were together, there was an us." She set her steely gaze on him, reaching for the protected hand. His skin was warm, always finding a way to temper the ice she veiled around herself.

And his face, which had been twisted into a contemptuous expression, relaxed, absently stroking her hand with his thumb. "I missed you."

The lotus smiled.
